Micronetics Test Equipment Selected by Home PNA
HUDSON, NH--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- November 15, 1999--Micronetics Wireless, Inc. (NASDAQ/NOIZ) announced today that the Home Phoneline Networking Alliance (HomePNA) has selected Micronetics' broadband test equipment for use in testing and developing home networking equipment utilizing the standards promulgated by the Home PNA. The Home PNA (which currently has over 70 members, including 3Com, AT&T Wireless, IBM, Intel, and Lucent Technologies) has been developing standards for technology that uses existing telephone lines in the home for setting up local area networks (LAN), while not interfering with telephone transmission.

Typical home phone lines are unshielded, which could allow interference from devices such as televisions, computers, appliances as well as other background radio frequency noise. Micronetics' line of broadband test equipment simulates noise interference in a repeatable, laboratory setting which has helped to enable engineers developing Home PNA devices to achieve acceptable communication standards in noisy environments. Several Home PNA member companies have already ordered this equipment.

Our equipment typically generates a broadband signal which attempts to disrupt the transmission of the data being sent. Using a broadband noise signal allows the user to generate interference to stress the broadband delivery system in a manner similar to that it would experience under normal operation, but much faster. This allows our customers to test their equipment in a simulated real world environment in their laboratory or manufacturing facility. This equipment can also test equipment used for home networking or other broadband communication systems, such as cable, satellite or cellular."
